Tuesday 1 November at 18:00 at the London Coliseum
The Tower of London is the scene for a tangled web of melancholy and mirth in Gilbert & Sullivan’s beloved operetta. The arrival of a travelling troupe of performers sparks forbidden romances, fantastical plots and unrequited love. The unjustly imprisoned Colonel Fairfax has a mutual attraction to the young daughter of the righteous Sergeant Meryll, one of the titular Beefeaters. Phoebe wishes Fairfax be released so they can have the wedding she desires, and enlists the help of Jack Point, a roving performer. A classic Gilbert and Sullivan story ensues, with all the chaos that comes with it – but not necessarily the happy ending we expect from the duo…
The seats will be on the balcony level. Please note there are a lot of stairs to the Balcony level so I advise using the lift in the foyer if needed.
The opera currently has a running time of approximately 2 hours 40 minutes, scheduled to finish at around 20.40, with one interval. This opera is sung in English, with words displayed above the stage.
