St John's Smith Square Digital

Thursday 21st January 2021

Good afternoon all,

I hope that your week has been a good one so far. And that you enjoy today which is (as Ali M reminded me) today is the 21st day of the 21st year of the 21st century. Many people thought we’d never make it to this day, which gives us all the more reason to celebrate. The Mayans predicted that we’d be out of here by 2012, while other people were convinced 2020 would be the end of us.

Happy Thursday!

WHAT CAN I SHARE WITH YOU TODAY?

A reminder that we have two free Zoom sessions coming up in the next few days

Anti-science Thinking

Saturday 23rd January at 2pm on Zoom:

Stuart Sweeney will take the anti-vax movement as an example of anti-science thinking and how to convince the vaccine-hesitant to help in ending the pandemic.

He will provide a background of how scientific theories are tested; problems that arise for science; the origins of vaccination and the testing of vaccines; the anti-vax movement in the UK and USA and reasons for people to choose not to be vaccinated.

Please email me for the links.

Relax-and-destress

Next Monday (25th January) at 12pm on Zoom:

Siobhan Elliott will be offering a free Relax and Destress wellbeing session. Siobhan will look at tools and strategies for creating peace and a calmer mind, and strengthening our resilience.

Life is a crazy roller coaster for most of us at present, and these sessions are like an oasis of calm and grounding. Leave your problems at the door, and join like-minded people as she explores where we are and what we need right now.

Please email me for the links.

The first online session will take place on Tuesday 26th at 8pm.
With their Principal Conductor Chris Hopkins at the keyboard, English Sinfonia presents English Miniatures – a delightful programme of rarely performed, charming English chamber works from the late 19th and 20th century by Bridge, Coleridge-Taylor, Bax and Holst.
