Relax-and-destress

Friday 15th January 2021

Good morning all,

Isolation can be so difficult and affect us in so many different ways. Going through a third lockdown is a challenge for many of us. To get through these hard times, all of us need to develop coping strategies, making sure that maintaining both our physical and mental health remains a priority.

Do please take part in one of Zoom sessions that might assist you in this. I am also organising a free stress management session on the 25th. If there is enough interest, I am hoping to arrange this on a regular basis.

Please look after your mental health during this lockdown and if Amber or I can help, please reach out.

WHAT CAN I SHARE WITH YOU TODAY?

Masterpieces from Buckingham Palace

From Amy: Masterpieces Community Zoom

Wednesday 20th January at 2pm – Rubens, Rembrandt, van Dyck,

These Masterpieces all come from the Low Countries. There are some comic scenes of everyday life, but the majority of works belong to the more traditionally prestigious branches of art – narrative painting, commissioned portraits and ambitious landscapes with a symbolic or religious meaning.

The session will be dominated by three artists of very different character: Rubens, a diplomat and land-owner; van Dyck, a courtier; and Rembrandt, a professional serving the merchants of Amsterdam. In other ways they are similar, especially in their enthusiasm for Venetian paintings.

The Zoom details for each session remain the same.

Relax-and-destress

From Siobhan: Relax and De-stress

Monday 25th at 12pm – FREE

I’m Siobhan Elliot and I’m a therapist, meditation teacher and mindset coach. I love working with people from all backgrounds, helping them to create a balanced and joyful life that fits with their values and passions. Relax and De-stress is an informal wellbeing session, where we look at tools and strategies for creating peace and a calmer mind, and strengthening our resilience.

Life is a crazy rollercoaster for most of us at present, and these sessions are like an oasis of calm and grounding. Leave your problems at the door, and join like minded people as we explore where we are and what we need right now.

We’ll use breath work, simple meditation, wellness tips, mindfulness and other techniques, and the class will be an interactive and collaborative session. I encourage questions, and I’m of the view that there’s no such thing as a silly question. We’re all learning!

Book Recommendations

From Helena R:

For people who want something really substantial to read: ‘Stalingrad’ and ‘Life and Fate’ written in the 1950s by Vasily Grossman who had been a war reporter in the Russian Army.

If your scope has dwindled to a trip to the corner shop and watching the Covid news on TV try these inspiring books to get a wider perspective.

Although the basic story line is the Russian fight against Hitler’s invasion, they are full of wonderful characters from all sorts of backgrounds and give a grim but uplifting view of the world.

They will make living in the present conditions in central London feel like luxury!
