Wednesday 3rd June 2020 – Day Seventy One

Good morning all, hope that your day is going well so far.

Despite the crisis that we are going through and all the changes that we need to adapt to, daily life goes and we need to deal with daily life. Today I am waiting in for pest control as I have a mice problem. Also last night, while finishing up and getting ready for  bed, my front door lock broke off in my hand! Virtually trapping myself in all night. Not a huge problem, but thankfully James wasn’t with me.

So today I concentrate on the mundane and talks of virus, racial unrest and talks of kickstarting the economy fade into the background as I get my flat in order….hope your day is better than mine ?

What can I share with you today?

INFORMATION

From Mark L:

COVID-19 Lockdown Measures. Some lockdown measures in England can be eased:

  • From Monday 1st June – up to 6 people can meet up outside, provided that those from different households can socially distance in gardens and private outdoor spaces.

  • From Monday 15th June non-essential retail can open, providing tests are being met and that workplaces are Covid secure.

  • Minimising contact with others is still the best way to avoid transmission. The PM said it remains the case that you cannot be inside the homes of friends and family, unless it is to access the garden.

  • Those who have been asked to shield, should continue to do so. Johnson said he understands how different this has been and thanked those shielding for all their efforts.

  • Guidance will be published so that people can make the most of these new changes.

FUNNY SIDE OF LIFE

From Theresa:

A lawyer buys a big case of expensive and rare cigars and decides to insure them for quite a sum.
Once he was done with them he sued the insurance company. How this case unfolds is simply beautiful.

From Jerry – Mark Twain One-Liners That Are Still Relevant Today.

His advice will live on forever.

?Civilization is the limitless multiplication of unnecessary necessities.” That’s just silly. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go buy a new iPhone!

? “Fleas can be taught nearly anything that a minister can.” Hey, how did Twain know everything about our modern-day government?

Good evening all! How was your day?

My lock is now fixed and bigger and better than ever…still waiting for the Pest Control!

ZOOM session: Reading Paintings in the Royal Collection,

Every Thursday afternoon at 2pm, Dawn (from Buckingham Palace) will be leading us in a fascinating study of paintings held within the Royal Collection.

Together we will be looking at paintings each week examining, for example: style, colour, mood, composition, symbolism, mythology, fashion, and medium.

Dawn will help us de-mystify a painting teaching us how to ‘read’ an art work. She will also encourage us to consider extending our studies to objects found at home via art, drama or photography etc.

Tomorrow’s 3 paintings

John Piper – The Quadrangle, from Engine Court Windsor Castle, 1942

Edward Halliday – Maundy Thursday, 1952

Follower of Marinus Van Reymerswaele, c. 1548-51

Please email John for the link to join the session

That’s all for now!
