Viva Phoenix! – Book Launch

Artist and photographer, Virginia Nimarkoh, was invited by the Photographers’ Gallery to produce work about garden’s in Soho. When she approached the Phoenix Garden a year ago with an idea of producing a photographic portrait of the garden we loved the idea. The artist’s portrait; a bound pamphlet of images and text, will be launched and be available to buy at:

Yoga for Pregnancy
Pregnancy is one of the most amazing experiences of a woman’s life and yoga has long been recognised by doctors and midwives as being one of the most effective means of easing birth. Yoga can help a mother- to-be to feel fit and relaxed, support the health of her growing baby and ease delivery and labour pains.

Pregnancy yoga has many benefits. On a physical level the specially adapted yoga postures will help strengthen, tone and create flexibility in the body. The sessions will boast vitality, reduce stress and help relieve common pregnancy ailments such as back ache and fluid retention.

The breathing exercises relax the nervous system and bring increased oxygen to the body and therefore the baby. They are very useful to use during labour to help deal with the contractions.

Movements and positions which are beneficial for each stage of labour are incorporated into the class and each session ends with a relaxation.

The classes are also a great way to meet other mums-to-be.

Current Regular Room Availability as of April 2012

Dragon Hall rent out rooms on an occasional and regular basis. Our Main Hall is very popular especially in the evenings and at the moment the only evening that has regular availability is Sunday!

Daytimes are quieter in the main hall and a booking can be made most days of the week. Our Youth Clubs and After School Clubs are on Tuesdays and Fridays and the Under 5s Drop In take is from 10am to 2pm in the main hall.

The Green Room (medium sized meeting room) has a possibility of a regular slot from 7pm on a Monday and Wednesday (after Brownies). This room caters for about 30 to 40 people depending on the use.

The Purple room is the small room at Dragon Hall and has availability in the evening Thursday, Friday and at the weekend but can only host in the region of 12 to 15 comfortably.

Intermediate Spring Term has kicked off with a BIG BANG!!
Our first session involved Dodge ball; a great way for staff and young people to form teams and integrate with each other … and yes, our staff team obviously won.
As it is only one week into this half term, it is not too late to join in the fun. With great indoor/outdoor activities it would be a shame to miss out!!!

• Gadget day (R.C racing, flying helicopters & Xbox 360)
• Cinema trip (young people’s choice of film)

The Phoenix Garden is now available for hire – both for private and corporate events or as a film and photography location!

Bookings are managed by Dragon Hall Trust.

There are a number of different options if you are thinking of hiring the garden – from exclusive use of the whole garden, half day hire of half of the garden (exclusive use of that half), or even hourly hire. There is a separate rate for photography shoots where the garden remains open to the public or we can design a package that will suit all of your needs!

In addition to hire of the garden we have a number of ‘extras’ these include hire of a gazebo, BBQ, tables etc. all to help your event be a great success!

Garden Location
The Phoenix Garden is in the heart of London’s West End, situated behind the junction of Charing Cross Road and Shaftesbury Avenue. It is next to the Phoenix Theatre and is in close proximity to Centre Point and St. Giles-in-the-Fields parish church. The garden entrance is on St. Giles Passage.

New to the UK, classes are easy to follow, take their inspiration from latin beats, and help you burn calories while you tone up and shape up. You will feel the samba, salsa, merengue, afro-beat, calypso, flamenco, reggeton beats….and more!
You don’t need a partner or any complicated equipment. Just bring yourself and a positive attitude, and you will not believe the results. Also bring your trainers and clothes that will let you shake your booty!
Anyone of any fitness level can take part, as the steps build up from basic to higher fitness levels as the class progresses, allowing you to feel confident and give your maximum effort for maximum results. Each class is different, but can burn 400 to 900 calories.
Our instructor, Helene Panzarino, a fitness fanatic who transformed her body from a size 22 to a size 8 and found zumba a life changing experience.
