December 12th 2011 / Panto Time!

Get your tickets to the Dragon Hall Pantomime on December 12th 2011! 2 shows, 2pm and 5pm. After the 5pm performance the DRAGON HALL CHRISTMAS PARTY with extra entertainment by our drama club and the choir! Lots of other fun planned.

Tickets are £2 for children and £5 for adults.

So, of course, we said YES!

These young men then set about finding someone who could teach them how to do this, coming across a Different Drum Productions. We approached Victoria Coker, their director and she was really keen to help out.

We now have two groups who are putting their ideas into reality. They have learnt about story boarding, editing, cameras and acting. In 2011 they will begin filming their work, so watch this space for regular updates.

February was the 5th Anniversary for the Dragon Hall Tea Dance!

Brian Cornes, our fantastic Dance Leader, had this to say ‘It was very pleasing to see the 5 year event so well attended and I had some really good feedback about the event. Two dance teacher friends attended as well as the director of a dance company I have been involved with and they praised the event . The dancers were most impressed with the volunteers serving them throughout the afternoon. I also thought the volunteers were superb, it would be great to see them again at Dragon Hall. So a big thank you to our volunteers yourself and Jenny and James. It made the day very special for me and I can not see how it could have turned out better.’

A big thank you to the Metro Bank in Holborn for supplying our fantastic volunteers to help out at this event.

Layali Academy Aspiring Performers Belly Dance Course
Layali Academy Aspiring Performers eight week course takes place 11 January – 1 March 2011 with instructor Leila Molaei.

At each session, this course incorporates one hour of technique and core conditioning and one hour learning a new choreography. All students are encourage to perform as part of the Layali Academy Aspiring Performers Group and/ or as a soloist at the end of term Layali Show, although this is not mandatory.

Depending on your current level, you will learn and perfect your essential basic technique through individual moves and combinations, whilst building core strength, improving your posture and developing your improvisational skills. The choreography element will help you connect with Middle Eastern rhythms and beats, whilst the improvisational element will encourage you to develop and enhance your solo performance skills.

All sessions are two hours long. We dance in bare feet or ballet shoes. Comfortable trousers are ideal, but no jeans. Hipscarves are optional.

End of course Layali Show is planned for Sunday 6 March 2011.

Layali Academy instructors are professional performers and teachers who use a communicative teaching style – by the end of your first class, you will take something with you that you can easily translate and apply outside of the dance studio. Layali Academy students develop their own personal style, whilst increasing their confidence, becoming body-aware, having fun and learning the beautiful art of belly dance.

Showing at the Aldwich Theatre our young people met up with other groups who are also part of the programme. For some this was the first time they had been into a theatre to see a show. Many of the young people who attend the Dragon Hall Youth Club live in the Covent Garden and Holborn area – a very short walk to the West End and numerous theatres – however most had never been to see a West End show.

They all loved ‘Dirty Dancing’ and had a fantastic time – here are a few pictures of the trip…

Street Dance Back by popular demand! With Teachers from Sadlers Wells and supported by London Youth, Dragon Hall is very pleased to have a new course of street dance available to all young people aged 8 upwards.

A group of professional Actor/teachers are here in Dragon Hall with an after school Drama Club on Mondays, 4:45pm to 6:45pm. Age groups range from 5 to 18 years.

These classes are brilliant for:

* Acting and fun
* English and clear speech
* Focus and concentration
* London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art syllabus (optional exams, these earn you UCAS POINTS!)
* casting opportunities for Film and Television.

The hour long sessions are £7, payable termly.

From 29th January 2010 we will be starting Street Dance Workshops given by Sadlers Wells and supported by London Youth. The sessions will be on Fridays from 5:15pm to 6:15pm. The workshops are for ages 8 to 12 years. Places are limited so if you would like to join in please email or call to put your name down.
